⑪ I’d like to give you a situation and ask you to act it out. You are at the airport and have found out that your flight is delayed by two hours. At the airline counter, ask three or four questions about the delay.

⑫ I’m sorry, but there’s a problem I need you to resolve. Your flight was delayed, so you can’t attend an important meeting today. Call your client, leave a message about the situation. Give two to three alternatives.

⑬ That’s the end of the situation. You may have had problems while you were on a trip. Talk about a problem you had while traveling. What was the problem, and how did you deal with the situation?

(Day 3)

⑪ I’d like to give you a situation and ask you to act it out. Your friend invited you to a holiday party at his home. Call him and ask when the party starts and If you should bring anything. Ask two or three more questions about the party.

⑫ I’m sorry, but there is a problem which I need you to resolve. You just had a car accident and you are going to be late for the holiday party. Call your friend, let him know, and discuss two or three ideas about what you should do.

⑬ That’s the end of the situation. Have you ever been in a situation where you made plans for a trip or a party but because of an emergency, you had to cancel at the last minute? Talk about the situation and how you dealt with it.

(Day 4)

⑪ I’d like to give you a situation and ask you to act it out. You need to make an appointment to see the doctor. Call the doctor’s office and ask three or four questions about the appointment.

⑫ I’m sorry, but there is a problem I need you to resolve. Something has come up, so you can’t keep your doctor’s appointment. Call the doctor’s office and explain the situation. Ask two or three questions about rescheduling the appointment.

⑬ That’s the end of the situation. Have you ever been in a situation where you missed an important appointment or a meeting, or were late for one? What happened and what did you do? Talk about that experience.

(Day 5)

⑪ I’d like to give you a situation and ask you to act it out. You are going on a vacation to another country. Call the hotel where you will be staying and ask what the weather is like there, because you want to know what clothes you should bring. Ask two or three more questions about your travel plans.

⑫ I’m sorry, but there’s a problem I need you to resolve. You have arrived in the country, but the clothes you brought don’t suit the weather there. Call a clothing store and explain your situation.

⑬ That’s the end of the situation. Have you ever had any trouble because of unexpected weather? What happened, and who were you with? How did you solve the problem?

(Day 6)

⑪ I’d like to give you a situation and ask you to act it out. You are driving through a small town and have car trouble. Go to a service station for help. Ask three or four questions to get the information you need to get your car fixed.

⑫ I’m sorry, but there’s a problem I need you to resolve. You will miss an important business meeting because of your car trouble. Call your client. Explain the situation and offer some possible solutions.

⑬ That’s the end of the situation. Tell me about a time you had trouble with your car. What was the problem and how did you solve it?

(Day 7)

⑪ I’d like to give you a situation and ask you to act it out. Your friend just told you about a great new movie. Ask your friend three or four questions about the movie to help you decide if you want to watch it too.

⑫ I’m sorry, but there’s a problem I need you to resolve. You are at the movie with your friend, but the movie is boring, and you want to leave. Explain the problem to your friend, and give two or three possible ways to deal with the situation.

⑪ I’d like to give you a situation and ask you to act it out. You are writing a report on the technology industry. Your friend is an expert on this industry. Call your friend and ask three or four questions to understand more about this industry.

⑫ I’m sorry, but there’s a problem I need you to resolve. You have an appointment to meet your friend to learn more about the industry he works in. However, one of your family members has an emergency a few days before the meeting. Call your friend, explain the situation, and suggest two or three alternatives to get the information.

⑬ That’s the end of the situation. Talk about an exciting new product you heard about. For example, you learned about phones, cars, video games, or if could be some other product. How did you learn about it? Tell me about the product in detail.

⑪ I’d like to give you a situation and ask you to act it out. You are visiting a new city and staying at a hotel. You have a free day and want to explore the city. Ask the front desk clerk three or four questions about things to do.

⑫ I’m sorry, but there’s a problem I need you to resolve. You left your bag in the taxi that took you to the hotel. Call the taxi company, and explain the situation, describe your bag, and arrange to get it back.

Call the restaurant, explain the situation, and offer two or three solutions to solve the problem as soon as possible.
